Motion Tracked Robot VFX
In this project I was tasked with creating a motion tracked animation that featured some sort of character. The character was to be implemented seamlessly into the scene as if it were truly there.
The goal was to create a successful motion tracked and composited character.
Programs Used:
- 3D Character Rigging
- 3D Character Modeling
- Motion Tracked Compositing/VFX

The character was a small toy robot named "Byte-Bot" the video were to serve as a teaser for it. the robot itself was simple in design but still has an appearance that would be believable as a toy with small wheels on both sides of it. This would make it more realistic to be moving across a table as opposed to having a more complex design. The first step was to actually get footage that would work for this kind of project. The footage was then to be motion tracked in after effects and brought into Blender using a script. The data then allows the Blender camera to copy the motion tracking.
The robot was then modeled in Blender and textured in Substance Painter and was ready to get rigged. Rigging in Blender was something I had never done before but got the hang of rather quickly. Before long the robot was properly rigged and I was ready to begin animating. Using the motion tracked data I animated the robot to move across the table. An additional shadow and reflection layers were rendered out to make the robot's presence look even more realistic. The end result was a video that really makes it seem like the robot is actually there, and sells the idea that this is a real product
